What is Children come first?
Children come first is the only nationally recognised quality assurance scheme for childminding networks.
If your childminder belongs to a Children come first network you will know that someone who has demonstrated very high standards of care is looking after your child.
What is a Children come first network childminder?
A Children come first childminding network is made up of a group of registered childminders who are managed by a network co-ordinator. Before they can join a Children come first network, every childminder is assessed by the network co-ordinator to make sure they are working to the standards of the National Childminding Association’s Quality Childminding Charter. This covers all aspects of childminding, from keeping children safe to working with families.
The co-ordinator continues to visit all network childminders regularly, making sure that the childminder maintains these standards and builds on them with continuous training.
Early years education
Every three and four year old is currently entitled to a free early years education place. A growing number of network childminders offer early years education following additional training to become an “accredited childminder”. Only accredited childminders on an NCMA Children come first network can offer this service and access funding.
